‘Broken’ Deal?

-Barely A Year; And It Has Become Glaring About The Unholy Alliance; As CDC’s Unsustainable Protection Ploy Short-lands

It is often said that prestigious fails when it no longer resist the force placed on it and by extension a controversial Liberian statesman once lashed out that in cutting deal, one should be smartly careful to note that political utterance is not binding rather it is legal declaration is binding and it is from there one can count on some level or reliability.

Now, what seems to be an alleged unsustainable deal could be running into what pundits foresee as the clash of the Titans soon to start simmering; despite the Congress for Democratic Change’s (CDC’s) continued denial of profoundly being bankrolled in President George M. Weah’ 2017 presidential bid; inspite of report that protection for the family of former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf would be guaranteed under the CDC’s regime; latest development about the beclouded Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) in the L$16 billion saga with some officials subsequently jailed including Ellen’s son, Charles Sirleaf; it is not only troubling for the Sirleafs, but speaks volume.

Moreover, the action from the government she according to pundits, allegedly supported massively both financially and morally for things to turn out the way, manner and form they are presenting themselves shows a deep crack that pierces the family’s heart; demoralizes the former president and family’s kudos; which could give birth to things falling apart; damage the unholy alliance and break the throat of the alleged unsustainable deal cut in 2017.

Political observers also recalled that at the verge of ushering in the 2017 presidential election, it became a widely speculative open-secret that outgoing Chief Executive Sirleaf was no longer at ease with her own political party (Unity Party) that propelled and sustained her as president for 12 years of which financial and other most needed supports from her in a critical political season was stalled.

During the period leading to the 2017 elections that was won by Weah’s coalition, the trading of allegations, accusations including denial of Ellen stalling her support from her deputy dashing her VP Joseph N. Boakai’s hope ho became the standard bearer of the party to succeed her; firstly to the Liberty Party; but an allegation which brought Boakai and Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine to breath with tough talks against each others in the media before calming down;  Ellen before touching base with her party in what pundits referred to as an “empty reconciliatory nostalgia”; had earlier said that Boakai will have to work much harder as she did do, if he wants to win the 2017 presidential election.

However, for some unexplained or unspecified reasons, it became speculated that the outgoing president allegedly put her support behind Liberty Party; that also denied such link or perpetual pause and has reportedly diverted same to CDC of which the latter uprightly denied.

Today, as former president Sirleaf’s son, a renowned banker is thrown behind bars at the Monrovia Prison Compound under the rubric of an all-out-war on corruption of which the two investigative local and international reports on the purported L$16 billion missing coupled with the US$25m mop-up scheme fashioned in discrepancies that demand thorough explanation and documentation to counter the national troubled- void.
