AT LONG LAST, nerves have been calmed by the arrest of the alleged killer of murdered journalist Tyron Browne by the Liberia National Police (LNP) last week. The swiftness of the Police in hooking the alleged perpetrator deserves commendation, and this is what this editorial focused on. The police have been able to muster the courage despite public insinuations and prejudices to pursue the matter.
THE SWIFTNESS WITH which the police moved and the professionalism demonstrated only unlock the understanding of the positive direction it is moving in under the new leadership, headed by Col. Patrick Sudue.
HAD NOTHING DONE, had no one been arrested in connection to the gruesome murder of the young man, the insinuations, the negative attributions would have been too long before they disperse. We are aware of the politicization of the matter, wherein some elements in the society tried to link the government.
WE ARE ALSO aware of the developments coming from the LNP headquarters in relation to the scanty testimony or statement provided by the alleged killer, Jonathan William. While we applaud the police for the excellent work done so far, we also think much remains at stake. It is difficult for one to believe that no other person in the house at the time is unaware of the situation. This is why the girl should not be let loosed.
IN THIS LIGHT, it is only fair that we urge the LNP to look into the issue with all sincerity and clarity, because we cannot have people taking people lives under the guise of ‘unproven self-defense clams.’ All in all, we commend the police for the resilience in bringing the perpetrators to book, and insist that they to go beyond the preliminary investigation.
WE ARE AWARE of the conditions of the deceased, journalist Browne, whose lifeless body was dumped along the road in the Duport Road Community. Now that Jonathan Williams, the prime suspect has admitted to the commission of the crime that he mistook Tyron Browne as an ‘Armed Robber’ let him be investigated further to explain why he decided to dump his body in different location.
LET HIM, THE alleged killed tell the police why the late gentleman was sodomized since he mistook him as an ‘armed robber’ and why he couldn’t remain indoor and alarmed to other community members. He should explain what method he used to kill his perceived armed robber that community members around him did not notice.
ALSO, WE URGE the LNP to ensure speedy adjudication of this case and bring to book all those linked to this gruesome murder of journalist Tyron Browne. Besides, the public should be informed of every development in this case to eradicate the fear that has taken root in the country since this incident.
