Senate Shields VP Taylor?

It seems that the Liberian Senate is trying to shield Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor over allegation of collecting double benefits and salaries from the Liberian Government.

The Liberian Senate in a statement issued Friday, August 10, 2018 by its Press and Public Affairs department stated that Vice President Taylor is not receiving any benefits belonging to the office of Bong County Senator.

The Liberian Senate has debunked media report linking the Liberian Vice President to double collections of benefits and salaries as ‘untrue and far’ from the reality.

“The Liberian Senate has dismissed and termed as untrue media reports that Liberia’s vice President is still receiving benefits belonging to the office of Bong County Senator,” the statement clarified.

The statement quotes the Liberian Senate as saying that the Front-Page Africa Newspaper at no point contacted its department of press and public affairs neither its committee on Rules, Order and Administration before publishing the story.

It can be recalled that the Front-Page Africa Newspaper in its Thursday, August 9, 2018 edition published a story alleging that Vice President Taylor is still collecting benefits belonging to Bong County Senator in the tone of US$2, 200.00 for the past six months even though she gets pay as Vice President of the country.

However, sources within the corridors of the Liberian Senate are still maintaining that VP Taylor still collects the salaries and benefits belonging the office of the Bong County Senator despite clarification made by the Senate.

Our sources said the Senate is only trying to cover up for the Vice President and to avoid criticism and condemnations by the public against the second highest office in the country.

“Let me tell you, this story about the vice president still receiving benefits and salaries from the senate as senator is true, but the senate is only trying to cover up VP Taylor and settle it behind the scene,” our sources hinted with confidence.

Our sources further stated “she has two persons, one male, who usually collects the gas coupons and girl who collects the salary from the bank. To cite an instance, immediately after they took office as vice President, the following month the guy (male) responsible for the collection of the gas coupons went to collect them the person responsible to distribute called her (vice President) and she told him that it was her benefits and as such, she is entitled to them,” our sources stressed.

Meanwhile, the office of the vice President has refused to comment on the matter whether or not the allegation is true.
